Merry Christmas 2008

Grant turned 3 on Jan. 11, 2008. As a 3 year old, Grant has learned how to play soccer, spell and sound out words, sleep in a big boy bed, swim like a fish, and be a good big brother. Grant really loves music, dancing and putting big puzzles together. We all went to Sea World in San Antonio and Grant enjoyed getting splashed by Shamu, riding on the roller coaster, and figuring out the park map (we’re not kidding). Grant started a 3 day-a-week pre-school in September and he loves school and his teacher Mrs. Kate. On Halloween, Grant was a “muscle” man (aka Captain America) and he pulled in a giant load of candy. We also had fun attending some of the local elementary school fall carnivals. Grant is quite lucky and won several games, but mostly enjoyed riding on the big pony and smashing confetti eggs. Uncle Kevin came in November and had fun with Grant at the dinosaur exhibit and riding the train at Zilker Park. Grant is very excited about Christmas this year and talked with Santa (“I want a bike that is more higher up...”)

Our BIG news for 2008 is that Porter Maxwell Eastley was born on May 22, 2008, weighing in at an athletic 9 pounds, 3 ounces. He still has blue eyes and light brown hair. Sherri had a planned C-section again and it went much better this time. Sherri’s mom, Jan, came to visit and help take care of Grant while Sherri and Porter were in the hospital. We enjoyed her visit and are very appreciative of the help – as we are still trying to get used to juggling 2 kids. Kent’s parents, Jay and Naoma, then came to visit and were very helpful too! Porter was fairly difficult at the beginning suffering from reflux and colic. However, since Porter has been 3 months old, things have gotten considerably better. Porter is now a very smiley baby and he loves to laugh. He likes to be toasty warm, so we are very thankful that we live in a mild climate and that Porter was born during the summer. Many days and nights were spent pacing the driveway in 95 degree weather—with Porter as snug as a bug in a blanket. Porter is pretty coordinated and can almost crawl at 6 months. He got his first 2 teeth at 5 months old and is already wearing clothes for 18 month old toddlers. Both our boys keep our nanny Danielle very busy. We are thankful every day for her patience and love for them!

Sherri turned 32 in February and has continued to work for Pirkey Barber LLP law firm 3 days a week as a trademark attorney, enjoying her job there. She also has been very involved in church activities, running the neighborhood playgroup, and planning fun activities for Grant. (Did we mention she was also pregnant and had a baby in 2008?) Kent’s year can be summarized in 10 words: No sleep, great job, no sleep, new haircut, no sleep. Kent continues to work at IBM and really enjoys his job as a software program manager. He loved going to a few Texas Longhorn football and basketball games this year too (it’s nice to have college student friends!) and was able to go to his sister, Michelle’s, wedding in July and see his parents and all his siblings.

We have been very blessed again this year as a family. We spent Thanksgiving with wonderful friends and will spend Christmas with friends here in Austin. We are very thankful for time this Christmas season to focus on the important things in life: the life of our Savior Jesus Christ, our wonderful family, and supportive friends all around us!
